Stuck in a Bloggy Rut

I have to admit, I am still having a difficult time maintaining the passion and motivation behind my blogging.  While I am still very into natural beauty products and makeup and trying to find wellness, I am lacking a motivation and drive towards blogging.

In order to make sure that I am not just in a personal rut, I have decided to give my blog until the end of the year to decide what I want to do with it.

Do I want to quit and focus on something else?  Do I want to change the focus?  Do I want to create a schedule? Do I want to do something else? I am not sure yet.

I love and appreciate the readers who remain loyal and keep coming back and I greatly appreciate the companies who have taken notice of little old me and my blog.   If you don't want me to go anywhere or change anything, say so here so I know.  It is very hard to maintain motivation when you rarely get any feedback, comments and traffic.  I am sure part of this is due to the Facebook page changes since people do not see my posts as much as they used to.

I had been feeling this way a while ago and then Alicia Silverstone retweeted my review of one of her Juice Beauty products so I felt reaffirmed.  Now, unfortunately, that feeling is back and I am hoping it will go away and I will feel refreshed.

I am not affiliated with this company. I purchased these products myself for personal use unless otherwise noted. My opinion is completely honest no matter how I received any items mentioned on this blog.

  1. I think there is so, so sooo much consumerism in beauty blogging, its easy to always feel compelled to buy more and more and more. That also gets tiring! For me, I have shifted my focus to use and appreciate what I have, rather than buy constantly. I would love to see some posts from you such as "products I've used up" or posts about rediscovered favorites you forgot about.

If you've lost your passion for blogging, obviously don't waste your time doing it. But maybe that gives you some fresh new ideas for content.

    1. Thanks Mary. I have not felt that I need to buy things to review for a while now. I get sent items from some companies once in a while and I have plenty that I just use on my own that I can review. That isn't really the problem. I am just not feeling it anymore. I am not getting the traffic and interaction with readers that I used to, especially since Facebook made all the page changes recently. I just feel like I need something more and I am not sure yet what that is. I am giving it time to see how I feel and what develops.

  2. Heather, I enjoy reading your blog, but don't feel like you have to keep to schedule. Why don't you blog when you're particularly excited about something, or really want to share a find. It should be something that you have a passion for. I know when I read your blog that I'll find an unbiased opinion, & that's important to me. I also love reading when I know you're excited about a product or rediscovering something that you've loved. Whatever you decide is fine. I'll still be a reader & will find you when you post.

    1. Thanks Rita. I do a lot of work with things like blogs and social networking in my job so I know that it is not worth having a blog if you don't plan to post more than 1-2x per week. Now that facebook isn't showing page posts like it used to, I get a lot less traffic and interaction with readers. My passion seems to be spreading out to other areas and I wonder if my blog needs to follow that path too. I am giving it time to see how it all goes.

  3. I love your blog... I just realized I wasn't getting any posts by mail so I checked my spam folder and there they were! Now I'm following you on bloglovin.
Maybe try having a weekly post on a specific day? Keep in mind just because people don't comment doesn't mean they don't appreciate it. People can be shy.
Ultimately it shouldn't feel like a chore but it would be sad to not have you in the blogosphere. Perhaps you can try a different angle that would make it more compelling for you?

    1. Thanks Michele! I truly appreciate it. I know it is hard to get comments and to get my posts out there to people. It just gets discouraging. I am also thinking I definitely need to find something more to really get myself truly inspired and involved again. I am hoping to evolve this into something bigger and wonderful instead of just giving up. That is why I want to take some time to see what develops, what comes to me, if inspiration finally sparks. <3

  4. I know I enjoy it when you blog about things other than just beauty products. I say up the variety of what you blog about and maybe that will give you more inspiration. Tell us about a great recipe you tried, or a particular goal or dream you have and why or whatever else strikes you. And I do always read your blogs. I am just bad about taking the time to comment on them! Another thought...you could allow a guest blogger every now and then as well. Maybe someone who's purchased a new beauty item that you weren't planning on buying. Don't give up!

    1. Thanks! I think variety might do the trick. We will see how it goes. I have a lot going on personally too so I think I just get burned out all around. I tried the guest blogger thing. It is very hard to get people who actually want to post and follow through.

  5. Hi Heather! I really enjoy reading your bog as well and have been known to 'save' posts as unread in my reader so that I can go back and read/re-read when I have enough time to appreciate them fully. Honestly, I liking reading all the topics you post.

I hope you find your passion again, you inspired me to start a blog and I have to admit, I've also felt this way lately, but for me it's more lack of time to put anything on paper.

    Hang in there!!!
