I tried a handful of natural or low-chemical products and finally fell in love with Jessicurl. Aveda & Deva Curl skip some bad stuff but were not natural enough for me. Jessicurl seemed a lot better, full of good for your hair ingredients and missing icky things like silicone, alcohols, sulfates, parabens, etc. You can even order them fragrance free which is what I do. My hair still smells great, if not better than those other products I used to use.
To test out Jessicurl, I ordered the Light & Luminous Collection in 2oz size. It is a sample kit of 6 products to try that are great for fine curly or wavy hair.It is $36 which comes out to about $6 per 2 oz bottle of product which is not too bad if you have bought travel size salon hair products. They tend to be in that price range if not a lot more. It was a great way to test out this line. I got a shampoo, 2 conditioners, and 3 styling products.
The first day I didn't follow one of the instructions which turned out to be super important. Do not use a towel on your hair! Out of habit, I did it and then my hair was not as happy. The 2nd day, I made sure not to use a towel on my hair and also made sure to use plenty of the styling products. Tadah, my curls looked awesome! I decided to keep trying out the product and kept loving it. These styling products work best on wet hair that has not been touched by a towel. I love to let my hair air dry so once I got rid of the towel habit, I was used to this routine.
My hair was driving my crazy in other respects though. I had been growing it out. It was pretty long and I have to say, I could not stand it. It was pretty but I didn't find it flattering to my face and it felt like a pain in the rear to manage. I remember long ago at the age of 6 or 7 when my hair was past my waist and I felt the same way. This must just be my personal preference. I went to the salon at that age and told them to cut it all off. They gasped in horror and turned to my mom who said, do what she wants. So, I knew it was time to cut some of this long hair off. Nothing too short or drastic like when I was 6 or 7 and chopped it all off. This time I just wanted to cut off a few inches and go back to having it just past my shoulders. I got it cut and felt so much happier and lighter. I felt more like myself again. Yay! Now this combined with my new Jessicurl was an amazing combination. So far I am extremely happy with the Jessicurl line. Here are some comments on the specific products I am using. I just got my full size products to replace the travel size collection and plan to keep using these great gentle products.
These products are not 100% natural but most of them are very close. They are gentle and contain a lot less of the harsh chemicals found in most hair products.
Gentle Lather Shampoo- A nice light lathering shampoo that is free of harsh cleansers. I do wash my hair daily so it is great to have something gentle that doesn't strip my hair or weight it down. Dermatologist's orders on the hair washing to all those who say, but no no no, washing daily is bad.
