Bare Escentuals Wanderlust Beach Collection

I have been on a much tighter budget so I wasn't able to jump and buy all the new Wanderlust collections like I used to be able to.  In face, my favorite one was the Beach Collection which I had seen at Ulta, about an hour and 20 min from my house, in May.  I thought, "Oh, I will wait to order."  Big mistake, every Ulta in my area and the Ulta.com website sold out!!!   Soooo I posted to my reader friends and one good friend found it in her local Ulta and picked it up for me, phew!  Thanks Amy!!! <3  Whatever did we do before paypal and facebook? LOL

So anyway, the collection is here and I love it!  The eye colors are fabulous and the chic radiance is my surprise item of this kit. It is my fave!  So perfect for a summery or even warm autumn look.  I didn't swatch the liner since I don't wear the Round the Clock liners (I plan to gift or sell it so I don't want to tarnish it with swatch use). I wore a Big & Bright Liner in Bronze in place of it.  They seemed similar in color.  The lip gloss is a great one for summer.  I love BE natural lip glosses.  (I was looking at old pics of myself on the blog and thought, why do I look so much more finished in these pics.  I am wearing all the same makeup...wait, I haven't been wearing gloss much lately so I am on a gloss kick.)  The bag is also super cute and summery.

I will post pics of me wearing this collection this week.

Alima Pure: Stormy Weather Collection

The latest seasonal collection from Alima Pure is out, Stormy Weather.  As I look out my window and see the rain falling, this collection seems just right to move from summer into fall. I was sent samples of the colors to test out and all I can say is wow.  Shimmery colors mixed with deeper matte shades of white, gray and purple.  This collection makes me want to go out and buy a stylish new trench coat. You can go more subtle or really bold with these so I am excited to play. I will post pics of me wearing these colors this week.

The collection retails for $36.  You get 4 full size eyecolors in an Alima Pure bag. That is a very good deal.  You can find it at www.alimapure.com

New Jewelry Storage - Yay!

I was feeling bogged down and unable to find what I wanted in my jewelry collection.  I collect a lot of artisan crafted pieces at arts and crafts festivals, fun artsy shops and when I travel.  I hate to own things that I don't use let alone can't even find.  I have 2 silver safekeepers and a keyholder that I was using for necklaces.  I had a bunch of earrings on a votive holder so they could be displayed but it was too full and one of my silver safekeepers was being kept way too high for short little me to be able to really see what was in there.  I looked around for something budget friendly that could solve my issue without needing to redo my setup or buy lots of shelves or tables or anything.  Finally, I found it!

On Etsy.com I found jewelry holders. Jewelry Holders for You has a shop on Etsy. My collection is mostly earrings and pendants or necklaces.  I do have some fun bracelets and a few rings but earrings and necklaces are my thing.  I found an earring specific jewelry holder that sounded like the right color for my look. For $39.95 plus shipping, I ordered a jewelry holder that was mostly for earrings.  I picked cocoa brown since it sounded similar to the color of my dresser.  They didn't have this pre-made so I had to wait a while.  They put the date it will be ready in the listing info so you know how long you need to wait.  They ship insanely fast too so once it is ready, you will have it in less than a week.

Mine arrived and I was so excited.  First off, it was way lighter than I expected which is a good thing.  I didn't want to hang some heavy thing on my apartment walls and then put tons of earrings on it too.  Not only was it light, it matched my dresser perfectly.  Yay!

I finally hung it this weekend.  They provided nails and instructions for hanging it up.    Then the real work began...sorting through all my earrings and figuring out where I want them.  The jewelry holder went up on the wall and opened up a spot on a little shelf I have so I could move my Silver Safekeeper and finally see what is in there.  Here is the final look!

Revisitng June 2009: My Faves from Burt's bees

I wrote this post in June 2009 and listed some of my faves from Burt's Bees.  I am going to comment on this, add some new products I love and share any updates I have.  My comments are below in bold red.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since switching to all natural skincare products, I have tried quite a few things and my favorites seem to be Burt's Bees, Aveda (mostly natural) and 100% Pure. Today I will rave about my fave Burt's Bees items.

Most people know of Burt's Bees for their fabulous lip balm, but they also have tinted lip shimmers which are fantastic. Imagine their lip balm with a hint of color. They feel great on, look great and leave your lips feeling soft. My favorite color is cocoa but I also really love the new color, caramel and the older nutmeg shade.

Some new products from Burt's Bees that I love:

Tinted Lip Balm! Love this stuff.  I am addicted to Red Dahlia and Rose right now.

pic from Burtsbees.com

Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother! I just love this stuff.  If you have been in the sun or have a sunburn, this really works to help bring your skin back and rejuvinate it after too much sun exposure.

Next, I am going to give my kudos to their Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream. I use this every night before bed. It is very gentle but cleanses with a slight tingle. We love this one still.  My boyfriend uses it almost daily.  I like to use it once in a while when I really need a really refreshing cleanse.

pic from Burtsbees.com

Every morning I use Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark, Deep Pore Scrub. I find that this really preps my face for the day. Another gentle yet effective product.  This one is still out there and available though I have moved on to new scrubs from 100% Pure and Juice Beauty.

Finally, I have to say that so far, my favorite body wash from Burt's Bees is by far, their Fabulously Fresh Peppermint & Rosemary Body Wash. A great refreshing scent to help you wake up in the morning. I am impressed with the suds considering that it is a natural product.  I still love this one but haven't used it in a while.  I love how minty and fresh it is.  I am almost out of shower gel and might need to pick up a new bottle of this one if I can find it locally.

If you want to check out the sale, here is a list of shops for particular Alex & Von consultants whom I have been in contact with.  To be fair, I wanted to make sure I included all of their links.  I am listing them alphabetically so there is no particular order to these. I want to add a note, if you visit the link for one of the consultants and then click to see another consultant's link, your browser might save the cache from the previous consultant and show their name instead of the one you just clicked on.

Bellaboo Berry Nice Face Fix Mask

Another fun Bellaboo Mask, I picked up Berry Nice Face Fix Mask at Ulta a few months ago.  The product line is geared towards teens but we all have a teenage girl deep down inside and the products work well for us too.

This mask retails for $9.99.  It comes in a cute tube which makes for easy application.  When you apply it to your face, it looks mauve which is a big change from the usual green or charcoal colored masks I normally treat my skin with.  This one is a big exfoliator, getting rid of dead skin cells and then "plumping" the new skin beneath it.  My skin felt wonderful after.  I did have some redness around the border of my face.  It went away with time but this is more of a nighttime mask for that reason.  If you have a teen you want to push towards being more natural, this is great and if you are into a natural lifestyle and want to feed your inner teen, this is great for that too!

Revisiting: Some older 100% Pure Reviews from 2009

This is a blog post I wrote in June 2009.
I decided to revisit it and add some updates and comments.  Old post will be in green, new comments will be black.   Enjoy!

YOu can find 100% Pure and their products at www.100percentpure.com

100% Pure Creamstick Liner Pencil & Liquid Liner 2-pc. Set

Creamstick liner pencils are fantastic. They go on creamy and smooth and the colors are great. I love them for a very quick application of some color on my eyes. I rub my eyes a lot because of allergies and it usually lasts as long as my BE, depends on just how much I rub my eyes LOL
The liquid liner was not as good for me. My biggest problem was the consistency. It was hard to get on well because it is not as creamy as you would expect. The color is pretty but the texture and difficulty to apply turned me off .

I don't really wear these much at all, sad to say.  The creamsticks are great for a quick look though.

100% Pure Moisture Rich Lip Gloss Duo w/ Fruit Pigments

Fabulous! I adore their lip glosses. They come in the old traditional applicator where you get lots of gloss but they can leak a little. I usually get around that by wiping it off before I put it in my purse and then I put it in with my cell phone so it stays standing up. The new applicators are really cool, you twist and click to get the gloss up into the brush to apply it. The only downside is that you get less gloss. Their glosses feel amazing, smell good and leave your lips feeling soft. They are ALL pretty colors too. The color does not last long but it feels so good that you won’t mind reapplying throughout the day.

These are still really nice glosses.  Great colors and applicators. They smell fabulous too. Reading this reminds me...go wear more gloss!

100% Pure Pink Champagne Luminescent Face Powder & Brush

I love this! When I got this set, I wore it daily. It is one of the few things I have worn through to the bottom of the tin already. It looks great on, gives a pink glow. Not quite like any of the radiances in shade. Almost makes me think of what it might look like if Glee became a Radiance.

This is a winner, even now.  I barely have any of it left so I use it sparingly but still love it.  Sooner or later I will have to part with it and decide if I want to replace it or not.

100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, 1 oz.

I wear this daily. I put it on in the morning and evening and it smells so good. It smells more like cookies than coffee. I have tried to find a good all natural eye cream and this was it for me. It has also been recommended in a few magazines.

I still use this everyday, morning and night.  This is my all-time fave eye cream. That is all! LOL

    100% Pure Bronzer

Great bronzer. I tried it in cinnamon. I love to wear it as a bronzer all over my face but especially to get my neck to match my face which it never does. It goes on great and the color is fabulous. I got it with one of their kabuki brushes which is so super soft and application is great.

I have fallen back in love with this one recently.  I am running low on my faux tan matte from Bare Escentuals and this works great.  Not only is it great on my face, but in summer, my face and chest get color and my neck is still white as a ghost so I use this on my neck to even things out. This is another winner!

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Glaze 2-piece Set

I got these in the Lychee/Raspberry combo. Such pretty colors! They go on really smooth. I find my lips look really pouty and sexy in these. They are not a matte finish, they are more like a color stained lip balm. The raspberry goes on a bit smoother than the lychee so I am guessing the amount of creaminess relates to the main fruit the color comes from.

Yeah...I am addicted to 100% Pure Lip Glazes.  I adore them.  I bought tons more on sale following this review.  If you search in my blog, you will find some posts with swatch pics.

100% Pure Organic Fresh Squeezed Strawberry Lemonade Shower Gel, 100% Pure Organic Fresh Squeezed Tangerine Juicy Shower Gel, 100% Pure Organic Virgin Coconut Shower Gel

Love them! You do need to be aware that these are much more liquidy than your usual shower gel. They are still great and last the same amount of time. They smell AMAZING. They really are 100% natural and still work great. The one thing I noticed about some of these is that the opening does get a little clogged but I can clean it out easily and use it with no problem. As for the coconut one, this shower gel gets the same great vote as above but the one note on this one, it does not clog the opening. Smells amazing and feels great on the skin.

From what I can gather, these are not available in this formulation anymore.  They now do foaming body washes which are nice and smell just as good but part of me misses this formula.  I didn't mind that it was more liquidy.

100% Pure Moisturizing & Juicy Lipstick Palette w/Fruit Pigment

Great lip palette. I love the colors and the creamy textures. My only complaint is that I want more lip brushes.

I finally had to part with this palette due to age.  Lippies can build up bacteria because of all the moisture and this was starting to smell a little off, easy to tell with 100% Pure stuff because normally it all smells edible. RIP Lipstick Palette!

100% Pure Healthy Glow Powder with SPF 20 and Kabuki Brush (Peach Bisque)

Nice foundation powder. I love the brush. The foundation feels nice and light and goes on smooth. It feels light. Just like BE, it takes some time to adjust to how to apply. I use this on my lighter make up days. I just wish they had more skin tones available.

I don't think I got the right shade for me but still wore it often enough to use it up.  I haven't replaced it, though I am curious about trying a different shade in their new foundations someday.

100% Pure 3-Piece Peppermint Color Collection

I love this kit! The blush is amazing. It looks great on and really smells minty. Just be careful around your eyes because it does feel cool and minty. I keep reaching for this blush above all my others. The lip balm is really nice though not strong enough for overnight use for me. It is great during the day when I need a quick creamy hint of minty moisture for my lips. The powdered pearls are really pretty but you do not get as much as it looks like you get in the pics. You get a small baggy of the pearls to empty into the container with the pretty puff. Still well worth it in my opinion.

This blush is still amazing! Love the powdered pearls, LOVE!  This was a winner collection.  If you can still find it, I am sure it would make a great gift for you or for a friend.

100% Pure Lip & Cheek Tint

I have 4 of these. They are really nice and the colors go on great. You can wear them on your lips, cheeks or even your eyes. I have to say that Strawberry is my absolute favorite on my cheeks. It gives a dewy glowy pink tone that I love. Their names tell you what effect you will get from the tint. Some are shimmery, some say glow and some say sheer. I seem to like the shimmery ones best. The only thing with these is you can feel them on your cheek if you put a lot on.

Speaking of lippies getting old, I had to part with these but let myself replace my absolute favorite which was Shimmery Strawberry.  Still love these, really great for a quick cheek tint, lip color or all of the above.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Butter 4-pc. Set

I have tried a couple of these but not all. The texture feels nice on. The tints look nice on the lips and they all smell great. Some of the cutest packaging I have ever seen.

I am just not a big fan of lippies that come in tins or tubs.  It always gets caught under my fingernails or I make a mess trying to get too much out.  If I am delicate I don't get enough.  These are nice but I prefer balms and butters in a stick form. Easier to apply.

100% Pure Lengthening & Conditioning Mascara Duo

Great mascara! I have tried every shade, black tea, blackberry and blueberry. They look great on and really make a difference. My lashes always look great in these.

Their mascara is still awesome.  I absolutely love it.  I still have a reserve of Black Tea and Blackberry.  This is some good stuff that really makes your eyes pop.  Hard to believe it is natural. ***Note: I was sent some of these for review purposes, you can search on my blog to read the full review and see pics***

100% Pure First Crush Lip Color Palette w/ Fruit Pigment
Great lip palette. Smells great and the colors and creamy textures are great. The tine is not hard to open like some of the other larger ones (see below). My only wish is that these came with a lip brush or applicator.

Another lip palette that needs to RIP.  So sad to see it go.

100% Pure Cocoa Pigmented Chocolate Lip Palette
This one was great but I returned it because the smell of cocoa was so strong. I love to eat chocolate but don’t like to smell like it I guess. They colors were so pretty it made me sad but I kept getting annoyed with the scent. Super creamy lip colors. The tin this one came in was much harder to open than some of the others.

Still not a huge fan of cocoa smells unless it is for eating.

100% Pure Cocoa Pigmented Eye Shadow Palette
Wanted to love this but didn’t. The colors were pretty but not as good as my BE. I found them hard to apply and wish they came with applicators or brushes that worked well with them. I got the best results when I used my fingers to apply them. It was much harder to use my brushes with this. Also, this was another hard to open tin.

I gave their eyeshadows a few more tries in other single forms, instead of palettes.  I like them now.  I find them much easier to apply with the right brush.  It makes a big difference.  I still prefer loose minerals to pressed for eyeshadows.

Juice Beauty: Alicia Silverstone Purely Kissable Lip Color

The last item from my Juice Beauty Sale order a while ago that I have to review is the Purely Kissable Lip Color from the Alicia Silverstone line.  I am loving this line so far and hope to try the skincare eventually but this was what the budget allowed for now, hooray for sales.

This lip color is a great shade of pink that should work on most skintones.  One me, it looks more pink but my skintone tends to bring out the pink in colors.  On a softer more pink skintone, I assume it will look a bit more natural.  It is soft and creamy.  My lips feel really soft and moisturized when I wear it. It contains organic ingredients and antioxidants, plus it is animal friendly. I am a sucker for a great natural lippie and this is a good one.  It retails for $16.  I love the packaging of this line.  It is all eco-friendly and is paper-based.

    What is Heather Up to?

I feel like I haven't been blogging quite as much this summer.  There has been a lot going on and my focus has been spread across a lot of things.

I am still making sure I post something here a couple times per week and hope to get to posting things I have been promising for a while like DIY beauty products, more product reviews, makeup looks and videos.  A lot of work has to go into these posts.  I need the right set up for photo taking, then I need to edit those photos, then those need to be uploaded and then I need to write my blog post.  Let's not even get into the amount of work it takes to do a video.  The videos are especially tough for me since my laptop and PC are not as new as they once were. Programs can be slow and I don't have a lot of room for huge video files so I often have to go through and back up items and delete them before I can work on a video. Then I have to edit the video and get it uploaded to Youtube.  It takes a lot of time and work.  I will get them all up as promised but just wanted to let you know why it is taking so long.

I have some fun new items I haven't blogged about yet, I am getting back into playing with eye  makeup looks.   I have a bunch of supplies for making DIY beauty products and just need to find the time to sit down with them and snap pics.  It is all on the way so I hope you stick around.

What have I been up to this summer?

    • June: I had a big work conference in NYC that I blogged about. Then, sadly, Mr. Kitty passed away in June.  It was a rough month after he was gone and things were pretty tough before then as well as he was battling aggressive cancer.  I started going to the gym again for the first time since my hip and low-back injury last summer.  I've still been trying to focus on pain management, getting myself in better shape and healthier.  Busy busy busy.
    • July:  We went to the coast of Maine for a few days.  I loved it there.  Wish I had more time there.  I got to stop at the new Bare Escentuals Outlet in NH on the way home.  My boyfriend had shoulder surgery and they found 3 things to repair so he is now home on the mend with use of only one arm which means I am doing a lot more at home.  I got really mad about my food allergies/intolerances and ate then all and then felt horrible so I guess I taught myself a lesson LOL I went to see an orthopedic specialist for my feet who was extremely discouraging and insisted I need surgery.  Once I heard the details of the surgery and recovery time and that it might not make me feel better, I opted to get a good cry out of my system and then seek alternative help like I have for most other health issues. At least he gave me copies of my x-rays so I have proof for doubting doctors that I was born with feet this flat and I also was told that I have no arthritis in my feet.   I am also going to see a podiatrist again to see if I need new orthotics.  I have gone to podiatrists off and on since I was about 12 or so. I ended the month on a happy note by going to Saratoga Paint & Sip studio with my mom.  It was so much fun and really sparked my need and desire to paint and create again.  We got to paint peacocks and drink wine.  I loved it!  I also did the Chopra Center 21-day Meditation Challenge this month, though sadly I was so busy, I missed out on the last 2 days.  I hope they repeat the program again as it was a good one. Not only that but I completed my 6 month program with my life coach, Amy, who was a guest blogger here a few months ago.
    • August: Lots of the same things are still going on.  Working on trying to get healthier and stronger.  My boyfriend is still home and on the mend with only full use of one arm.  I finally set up an art area in my tower room, which is also my beauty room.  I dug through storage at my parents house and found my old paints, brushes, sketchpads, etc and brought them to our apartment.  We've been trying to take little daytrips to get the boyfriend out of the house but I am really lacking in the me-time department.  I am not alone at work or at home just about all the time now.  I don't think my commute to and from work counts as me-time LOL
So needless to say, I have been really busy and have not had all the time I normally do to focus on the beauty blog.  No worries though, I am still here.  Sometimes we need a little time to refocus and deal with life.  Even when I don't get a chance to post new stuff here multiple times per week, I make sure to post on Twitter and Facebook when there is an interesting article or a great sale so make sure you look for me there.

Thanks so much for your support and I hope you keep on visiting Beauty Au Natural!

Alicia Silverstone for Juice Beauty: Irresistible Glow Highlighter

Somehow, I thought I had reviewed this and oops, it looks like I didn't.  I bought this during a sale at Juice Beauty and have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  The Irresistible Glow Highlighter from the Juice Beauty Alicia Silverstone line is a great find.  I think it especially gives a wonderful glow for a fresh summer look.

You can wear this over makeup or you can wear it alone.  You can do a nice simple look with a tinted moisturizer, some powder, bronzer and this highlighter and boom, you are done and looking radiant.  Over makeup, it gives a gorgeous glow.  I love to glide it on my cheekbones for a soft glow.  Sometimes I will even wear it as a blush.  It is smooth, creamy, not heavy or sticky and feels nice on.  They suggest that you apply with your fingertip but sometimes I will apply the stick directly to my cheekbones. If you want to have a healthy happy pink glow, wear this.

Coming from Juice Beauty and Alicia Silverstone, this is made with some of the finest natural ingredients.  It is eco-friendly and animal-friendly too. It retails for $22   Juice Beauty has some specials running so don't miss them if you decide to place an order: http://www.juicebeauty.com/web-specials/
