Where has Heather been?

I almost typed about myself in the 3rd person and then made myself laugh so this is a good start LOL  I have been going through what I am going to kindly refer to as a transitional phase in my life.  As comes with transition & change, there has been a lot of stress as well as other personal issues so I have not had to focus or time to blog as much.  No worries though, I am still here and trying to post at least once per week.  Life has just taken a different focus, which is on me trying to get well and take better care of myself.  I am hoping to start my own personal make up challenge or Nirvana again in the fall so stay tuned.

Due to the stress I was going through, I will openly admit that I went to see a therapist. I do not consider this weak and think that if you can find the right one, it is a real blessing to have someone uninvolved to be able to go talk and help you sort things out. I also signed up for a free meditation challenge through the Chopra Center, as in Deepak Chopra.  I had looked at it before as meditation has been suggested to me many times and I just never felt I was ready or had the ability to focus or sit still and quiet for so long.  I find that it was fate that all of the sudden, within a week or so of me wanting to look into starting, this program appeared for free registration.  It is a 21-day meditation challenge and they email you your daily meditation so you can do it at your own leisure and pace. It has been really great for me. I think that even though it started on Aug 15, you might be able to sign up now and go through the previous meditations.

Thankfully this was free because I also started getting acupuncture to help me deal with my stress and also some physical issues I've been dealing with. This was per my general practitioner's suggestion. She really thinks it will help me. My insurance doesn't cover that so I have been on a tighter budget lately.  I do have to say that meditation and acupuncture have been helping so I am hoping to have a good report at the end of my treatment with acupuncture and after more meditation practice.

Bare Escentuals Glammy Night - makeunder look with Spotlight on High Shine

I had a much needed escape from my day at the Bare Escentuals boutique tonight when I stopped by for Glammy Night.  The girls at the Albany NY boutique are great.  I had a lot of fun chatting and shopping and getting a fab makeunder.  I love how this turned out.  They used the BE Spotlight on High Shine collection along with Pretty Amazing in Witty which I requested.  Here are some pics!

McGillycuddy's Naturals - review & free shipping offer

While downtown buying a cupcake from my fave place, I noticed a new shop called McGillycuddy's Naturals in Saratoga Springs, NY.  They are a local place that makes and sells natural skincare, bath & body products.  I was so excited.  Eventually, I made it back there and bought a few things to try out.  They make lots of great olive oil and milk soaps as well as skincare items and bath & body items.

I picked up a lip balm, 2 bath bombs and a shower gel.  I love all 3!

I got the lip balm in coconut and wear it just about every night when I go to bed to keep my lips soft.  It is very moisturizing and not at all gritty like chapsticks.  It applies creamy and smooth and smells fantastic.

The bath bombs rock.  They make big ones and mini ones.  My bath tub is so small, the mini was plenty.  At first I wasn't sure I noticed anything because I am so used to the not so natural bath bombs that fizz like crazy and add color to your bath water,  then I could feel all the moisturizing ingredients in the water.  It smelled great and my skin was so soft and moisturized after my bath.  I tried coconut mango and a vanilla ylang-ylang.  They smell devine!

Finally, I tried their SLS free shower gel in a Honey Almond scent.  It works great, lathers up well even though it lacks that icky sodium laurel sulfate and smells very yummy.

Not only are these products great natural items for your skin and your health, but they are made local to me which I love.  Everything they sell is handmade in upstate NY.  I can't wait to try more and stock up on their lip balms!

Not all of their product line is available online at this time but they do have some great stuff available.  They are currently offering free shipping on all web orders until the end of Labor Day weekend - so Sept 5th will be the last day. No code needed. www.mcgillycuddysoap.com

Some pics of their products and shop from their page on Facebook:

Bare Escentuals presents: Ready Eyeshadow Palettes

Sadly, I am not a blogger who gets exciting new items for preview and review purposes...not yet anyway.  I wanted to wait until more info came out and now I think there is plenty of it so me to write a good enough intro on the new Bare Escentuals Ready Eyeshadow Palettes.
image from Musings of a Muse: http://www.musingsofamuse.com/

Here is the scoop:
  • They are coming out this fall.  According to Musings of a Muse, they will be presented on QVC on September 29, 2011 and are slated to be in Bare Escentuals boutiques and Sephora in October 2011.
  • Free of parabens, binders, fillers, and harsh chemicals
  • Contains a new SeaNutritive Mineral Complex which is made up of powerful antioxidants, cold-pressed borage oil, caffeine and cucumber
  • Pricing looks to be $20 for duos and $30 for quads
  • Handy for those who could never get the hang of using loose minerals or for travel
Here are links to various online resources and blogs with tons of pics, swatches, reviews and info:
There are plenty of other blogs and sites out there mentioning these or showing them but they seem to contain the same info or are just linking back to these sources so I figured these are the top places to look for the info and pics. Enjoy!

The Natural Deodorant Quest - Good News!

After my last post on my never ending natural deodorant quest, I kept looking.  The 2 top choices I had come across didn't have aluminum but were not as natural as I would like. I am not one of those girls who "glows."  Sorry Miss Etiquette but I sweat! (tee hee, that rhymed)  Well, I believe I FINALLY found 2 top contenders.

Contender #1 Bubble & Bee Pit Putty

Pros:
  • 100% natural, absolutely nothing bad in there. Ingredients: Organic arrowroot powder, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic lemon essential oil, organic clove essential oil.
  • Comes with a special guarantee that you can get it replaced and try a new one if it doesn't work for you (not if you just don't like it).
  • Available in multiple scent options
  • Cost is under $10
Observations:
  • A little hard to get used to application process, you need to be very specific to not make a big mess
  • You need to apply immediately after your shower so you can't store it anywhere besides the bathroom
  • You won't smell like BO at the end of the day but I felt like I was stinky.  My BF kept telling me I smelled like italian food LOL
  • I think it got too hot and damp in my bathroom which caused the deodorant to crumble a bit when I tried to apply.  If that wasn't the issue, then I had extended it too high.  I am usually fumbling around and tired out in the morning so this might not be the right one for me.
Score:
  • I give this one a 9 out of 10

Contender #2 Goat Milk Stuff Natural Deodorant
Still in trial phase, doesn't even have packaging yet

Pros:
  • Currently in testing phase to facebook fans so they are taking feedback to make the product the best it can be
  • 100% natural, absolutely no bad stuff. Ingredients: Cocoa Butter, Baking Soda, Arrowroot Powder, Sunflower Oil, Salt, Essential Oils.
  • Now 2 scents available
  • You get free soap samples with your order (and they smell yummy!)
  • Cost is under $10 and should stay in that range after trial period is over
Observations:
  • Warms to your skin and gets creamy as you apply
  • Doesn't leave residue on your clothes
  • My BF doesn't comment on my aroma and I don't sense any stinkiness, event on a hot day or after a workout
  • I am not in love with the scent of this deodorant but it isn't bad either.  I think I might try the tea tree only option and see how it compares, though the lemongrass scent might be what helps cover up my stinky pit smell.
Score:
  • 10 out of 10, Yes, we have a winner!!!! After years of searching, I think I finally found a natural deodorant that doesn't give me a rash, keeps my armpit skin soft and smooth, doesn't cost a fortune and it works!!!

I'm With Cupcake - 10% off

Not exactly beauty related but I think things that make us happy and keep us young make us more beautiful.  I found this great shop online called I'm With Cupcake.  They are based on Canada, based in Ottawa.  No worries, they ship internationally.

As stated on their site, "I’m With Cupcake offers you just that. A place where the word cupcake is redefined to mean more than a small cake. Here, cupcake means anything cute, fun, kitsch, and clever."

If you love funky fun things for your home, kitchen or office, this is a great shop for you! They do sell cupcake themed items, which most of you know I love, but they also have lots of other fun stuff.

Not only is this shop fabulous and fun, my readers get a Beauty Au Natural exclusive discount! To get 10% off your entire order of $10 or more (before taxes) just enter promo code "Beauty Au Natural" at checkout. Coupon code is good through September 30, 2011.Visit http://www.imwithcupcake.com/ to shop and get your discount as a Beauty Au Natural reader.

Eco Tools 5 Piece Bamboo Brush Set

I finally tried out more Eco tools brushes.  I was ordering some hard to find locally hair products at Drugstore.com and they were running an Eco tools special, which is still on right now.  Buy 2, get 30% off!
Thanks to Drugstore.com for the image

I picked up 2 sets of brushes since I am a brush fiend and can never have too many brushes LOL  The set I tried and love is the Eco Tools 5 Piece Bamboo Brush Set.  It comes with a mineral make up face brush, a mini kabuki brush, a concealer brush, an eye brush and a storage pouch.  I did almost my entire look today using just these 4 brushes.  I will post the look later tonight.

The brushes are amazingly soft.  They glide across your skin but application of my Bare Escentuals foundation was great.  I look flawless and smooth.  I got great coverage with the face brush.  I used the concealer brush to apply my bisque and it worked great.  The mini kabuki is what I used to apply warmth, cheek tint and clear radiance.  It worked well for all 3 and since I didn't use too much, there wasn't any left on the brush for the next application.  I used the eye brush to apply 4 difference eye colors.  I have to say these brushes are winners.  You cannot beat the softness, the smooth application and the price.  Eco tools is available in places like Target so I suggest you check them out if you are on the market for some good synthetic animal-free earth friendly brushes.

The Bare Escentuals Aug 13 Today Special Value - Flawless & Luminous Kit

I finally had some room in the budget to pre-order the Bare Escentuals Today's Special Value kit from QVC.  The TSV will be on Saturday on QVC.  Don't miss the shows!

Saturday, August 13
Midnight—1 am EDT
3 am—4 am EDT
2 pm—3 pm EDT
6 pm—8 pm EDT
10 pm—11 pm EDT

Flawless & Luminous Complexion
$51.36 ($124 value)
Only available for 1 day on August 13, 2011

The Flawless & Luminous kit is more about basics. No eye colors or lippies but you get deluxe basics you can't live without.  You get a ginormous foundation.  I have never seen such a huge foundation jar.  It is a basic sifter jar, no click lock go like the regular foundations currently have.  You get a huge Advanced Clear Radiance in Dewy Glow which is much bigger than the other Radiances usually are unless you order a special edition "tub" as I like to call them.  The Prime Time face primer is also enormous. Another plus is the availability of foundation shades not previously in many kits or TSVs.  When I saw Golden Fair available, I was sold!

Here are some pics.  The advanced clear radiance has some different ingredients.  I don't have a lot of details about it aside from what it says in the collection insert.  Sounds to me like it gives you a boost of vitamins and moisture on top of the traditional radiance we are used to from a Bare Escentuals Radiance.  Here are some pics.

Prime Time size comparison, you get twice as much as usual!
Size comparison - Far more than 2x the amount of Radiance you usually buy.***Updated per QVC presentation 5x the usual amount!***
