My Natural Deodorant Search Update - I found a winner!

It has been a while since I updated you on my search to find a natural deodorant that works well, lasts, doesn't leave gunk on clothes and doesn't contain harmful aluminum or parabens.  Well, I think I may have finally found a winner with a special prize for runner up.After trying all kinds of pricey natural alternatives, some of which I had reactions to and could not even wear, I came up with a top 2 and they are both under $6!

And my top choice for natural deodorant is: (drumroll please!)
DeoDry™ Dry-Effect Deodorant Cool & Zesty Stick from the Body Shop!
I finally picked this up a while ago and tested it out since I got home from NYC.  The scent is a little strong but pleasant, nothing bad.  I am just sensitive to scents so I notice it sometimes.  It goes on clear.  It seems to last all day. It lasted through my 1 hour gym workout! Best part, it only costs $5.  It also comes in Floral and Chilled & Breezy scents.  The Zesty scent was most my style. I am very happy with this one and hope it keeps up the good work LOL

Ingredients list from the Body Shop website:
Propylene Glycol, Water, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Ceteth-20, Perlite, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Alcohol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Limonene, Eucalyptus Radiata Leaf Oil, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Oil, Citral, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Cymbopogon Flexuosus Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Linalool, Eugenol, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Bud Oil, Satureia Montana Oil, Geraniol.

And the Runner Up is:
ARM & HAMMER ESSENTIALS® Natural Deodorant in Fresh Scent
This is available in most drugstores and even grocery stores.  That is where I found it.  I got itat the grocery store and was quite impressed.  I don't mind the scent at all.  It applies clear.  It lasts pretty well though you might need to reapply, especially on a warm day or for a workout. You can generally find it for under $4.  This doesn't last quite as long as the one above but it is a great second choice.

List of ingredients from
Dipropylene Glycol, Water, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) (Baking Soda), Coriandrum Sativum (Coriander) Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Essential Oil, Lavandula Hybrida (Lavender) Oil, Fragrance, Triclosan, Tetrasodium EDTA, Allantoin (Comfrey Root)

I am not stating that these are 100% natural, they are just the best option I have found that does not contain parabens or aluminum. Thank you.

I am not affiliated with this company. I purchased these products myself for personal use.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I will look for these next time I'm out :)

  2. Interesting ... I've not heard of either. Guess I better start looking around.

    Visiting from SITS :)

  3. Both of these deodorants appear very greenwashed to me. Some of the ingredients are natural, but many of them definitely are not. Just look them up on the Cosmetics Database and you'll see what I mean. They both even contain fragrance (aka phthalates). I would recommend you continue your search...

  4. After many many expensive attempts to do without fragrance along with aluminum and parabens, I opted to be happy with these as a temporary solution for now. If I spot anything that is truly free of all 3 that works and isn't messy, I will shout from the rooftops but for now, I am sticking with these.

Some natural ingredients are listed on cosmetics database as bad for you, though in my opinion, anything when not used in moderation can be too much or not healthy.

  5. Of course, everyone is going to have different opinions about what is acceptable, and what isn't, when it comes to natural ingredients. For me, I wouldn't use or classify either of those as natural products. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I recently reviewed the deodorant from Miessence (I have no association with the company) and it actually works really well. It is a roll on, which took a little bit to get used to, but I like it. My husband, who sweats excessively, also likes it. It is expensive though. But I'll pay a little more for something I'm not afraid will harm my health in the long run.

  6. Thanks for the suggestion, I will gladly look into that one. I have had a lot of bad luck with my hunt for a truly all natural deodorant. I had allergic reactions to some that cost more than I can to admit.

  7. No problem. I have been looking for quite some time as well. I have huge sensitivities to most deodorants too and get crazy rashes that are difficult to get rid of, so I'm extremely careful with what I use.

  8. Thanks for visiting on my SITS day. Come back any time. You're always welcome at my place.

I look forward to reading your comment! Sorry I had to set up moderation because I was getting a lot of spam.
