Project Renewal - Time for a change

I've been thinking over the past week or so that I need a change in my life.  I feel very bored and dissatisfied and realized that won't change unless I make it happen.  I have a job where I sit at a computer all day and this is hard for a person who generally likes to be free and who is very creative.  I am noticing both emotional and physical results and need to change this now.  My decision was to spend less time sitting at a computer, especially when I am home.  Instead, I need to start making art again, doing creative projects, working out, going outside, helping others and learning new things.  A few days ago, Leslie Blodgett announced her project renewal where she plans to try something new or something she hasn't done in a long time everyday.  This seems like a similar thing to what I was hoping to do and other friends have jumped on board.  It seems much easier to get myself going now that I know I am not alone and can report what I did today and we can all support each other.

On Friday I spent a long day out with my boyfriend.  We had quality time visiting an old amusement park we used to go to as kids that has now been taken over by Six Flags.  We ventured around trying to figure out what old original stuff was still there and trying to find what was gone or changed.  We also had fun on some rides and then went out to lunch. It felt great to spend a nice day with him since we really only get quality time together on weekends, but there was less rushing around this time, just us out enjoying each other's company.

Then yesterday, I decided it was time to paint.  Aside from making a painting for a fellow artist's birthday project and a tiny painting for the Bare Escentuals getaway art project, I have not painted much at all in years.  I was painting all the time and then I was in a car accident.  My shoulder, neck and back were injured, luckily it was just muscular or things I was going to get when I got older were exacerbated. It took a long time to get my back and shoulders to be able to handle the motion of painting again and I had not painted in so long, I had trouble getting myself back into the groove.  Then of course, I had a full-time job which took up more of my time than I was used to so my creative projects fell aside.  The only creative outlet I have really had is my mineral make up so thank heavens for Bare Escentuals and other brands like The She Space.

My first painting project is a painting for my boyfriend's uncle.  Note to self, never agree to do a painting that is totally not your style.  I am painting a grim reaper for him LOL  Not what I pictured my first real painting to be after all this time but I said I would and it has been years since I said I would so why not start there.

I am also on a major sorting spree.  It is time to toss, donate or sell things and organize the rest.  I need to do that both here at the apartment but more so at my parents house.  I am hoping to spend the day tomorrow working on my old room and storage area there.  Stay tuned for some Ebay selling announcements.  I also need to pick up more of my art supplies from their house.

Other things I am hoping to do or learn:
  • Learn to crochet, knit &/or loom knit (at least one of them)
  • Listen to CDs to learn languages, starting with Italian
  • Read more
  • Meditate everyday
  • Do yoga on days I don't have yoga class, especially in the office
  • Workout at least 3-5 times a week and not the same old DVD I always do, time to change things up
  • Paint, Draw and make collages more
  • Use all the fancy Adobe software I bought for artistic purposes for more than just cropping pictures
  • Eat healthier, work on portion control, try to acknowledge my emotions and figure out if I am hungry or just not dealing with my feelings or boredom
  • Go for walks as often as possible on work days
  • Bring a creative project to work to enjoy on a break (sketchbook or crochet/knit project)
  • Try to limit food allergens more, especially dairy
  • Eat less processed food
  • Do more giveaways on my blog!

  1. Heather, love how you "put" it out there, I hope it will help you keep on track with our Project Renewal!! I will do it less public- LOL, will post on the Angel page and on Majykal.
Good luck to all of us and can not wait to see where this journey will led us!

    Good Luck!!

  2. This is more my way of journaling now. I figure, if there is stuff I want to keep private I will. I will probably share most with the Angels.

  3. This is a great idea. I have a lot of the same goals as you. I have been exercising 5 days a week for over a year--but I always need to renew my motivation for that. I would also like to meditate every day. It is great that you have a concrete list of things you want to do/try. I will look forward to your updates :)

  4. Thanks Becky! Sometimes you just know you aren't happy and need a change. Good for you, working out 5 days a week. I have had a hard time getting back into my routine but know I need it. I always feel better when I do. Plus, I think learning new things will help with my boredom, especially the creative stuff.

  5. Heather -- what a great post! I've been thinking of some similar things lately and your post was so timely for me. Thanks for sharing that!!

I look forward to reading your comment! Sorry I had to set up moderation because I was getting a lot of spam.
