The She Space Order #3, so many pretty colors!

Today I got my 3rd order from The She Space.  Not even a minor leak this time so no sparklies to wipe off the jars.  These colors are so pretty and such a great deal.  I need to work on my new organization for all my mineral make up to get all these TSS colors into a home.

Swatches follow the names and order of the first label pic.

100% Pure Creamstick Lip Pencils and Lip Glazes

I got my Hautelook order yesterday.  A box of 100% Pure, some great deals on skincare I already use, a new black tea mascara and 3 new lip pencils.  I was so excited to get these and wanted to share my swatches.  I am hoping to try wearing them this weekend. These are the only 3 shades available right now. Hopefully more will come out soon.  I also decided to swatch my 100% Pure Lip Glazes.  I only just opened my Strawberry one from a previous kit.  I really like these and hope to try some of the other shades available.

Order#2 from The She Space

I finally received order #2 from The She Space. Really liking these colors.  Hooray for pretty new mineral sparklies!!!!  I was worried because there was something pretty, green & sparkly in the bag along with the jars but the leak wasn't bad at all. Just had to wipe a little Moral Enemy off the jars LOL

Goodbye Aveda, Hello Deva Curl!

I've been using Aveda Be Curly shampoo and conditioner for quite some time now and was not pleased when I noticed a brand that claims to be very natural (usually stating 97% or so natural) has shampoo and skincare that contains parabens!!!  The shampoo and conditioner products also contain sulfates. (Updated to say it appears that now, in 2011-2012, Aveda has removed these ingredients).

I already found new face moisturizer from 100% Pure and my face is soooo happy so I decided to hunt for good sulfate and paraben free hair products for fine curly hair.  What I decided to use is Deva Curl.  I already used a couple of their products so now I am using their Low Poo instead of Be Curly shampoo.  I am going to get Deva Curl One Condition once I finish my Aveda Be Curly Conditioner.  I tend to go through conditioner more quickly so I figured I might as well finish off the bottle before changing over. I also picked up a few more of their leave in/styling products.

Some product info from Deva Curl on the items I use now:

All products are 100% Sulfate Free and they are for all types of curly hair.
They all smell really good and are infused with tons of botanicals.

Low Poo: "DevaCurl's coconut-derived, mild lathering cleanser is gentle enough to use daily while maintaining the moisture balance of the hair and scalp. Scented with Starfruit and Mango."

B' Leave-In: "A leave-in curl booster and volumizer that adds luster and body to your curls."  I am still getting the hang of how much of this I need to use but my hair already feels much softer.

AnGEL: "A lightweight, moisturizing curl defining gel for maximum frizz prevention that holds without feeling stiff or sticky." I have been using this for a couple years now, LOVE IT!

Set it Free: "Put an end to frizz with this 24-48 hour moisture lock for long-lasting hold. Made with shine-enhancing Beeswax and Olive Oil and scented with zesty lemon-lime. "  Been using this one for a while too, my hair is much happier with this.

Mirror Curls: "The newest addition to a product line dedicated to the curly lifestyle! Let's reflect... this first ever, silicone-free, water-soluble, botanically infused, 99% naturally derived shine serum delivers moisture, maximum curl reflection and a shine so bright you can see your curls in it! Great for all curl types."

Mist-er Right: "A lavender infused, curl revitalizer, refresher and rejuvenator for all curl types."  I am starting to think I need one of these for the office and one for the car LOL

Strawberry Shortcake Perfume!

Did you love Strawberry Shortcake when you were younger?  I know I did.  One of my favorite things is the scent of the dolls, especially strawberry shortcake herself.  It always makes me feel so happy.  While scanning Etsy.com, I discovered a shop that has perfume oils and has scents inspired by the dolls of Strawberry Shortcake.  I had to go for it and my Strawberry Shortcake perfume oil arrived today.  Needless to say I have been sniffing it at my desk all afternoon LOL I am going to highly recommend you visit the Misery/Love Co. Shop at Etsy.com.

Bread Machine Pretzels

I had some new adventures in baking this weekend since I took Sunday off and had Monday off for Presidents Day.  I love having more time to relax and be home.  This weekend I baked some pretzels.  I made the dough in the bread machine, then rolled and shaped the pretzels, boiled them and then baked them.  Finally when out of the oven, I topped them with sea salt or sesame seeds.  We voted that we like the salty ones best so next time I will make them all with salt.

I used this recipe from Allrecipes.com:  Soft Giant Pretzels

Bettie's Cakes - Special Order Cookie Monster Cupcakes!

My favorite Saratoga Springs bakery, Bettie's Cakes, recently had a new addition to the menu. Cookie Monster Cupcakes!
As soon as I saw these, I knew I had to have one...or two.  I special ordered them for myself for Valentines Day.  They are C size cupcakes which is the largest cupcake they make.  They look so cute and taste delicious.  Everything is edible. You can choose your cake flavor when ordering.  The cookie is a smaller version of their fabulous chocolate chip cookies.  I highly recommend them.  They sometimes have a few available when they open but they don't last long so it is best to call and special order these.

Bunny Butt Apothecary Product Review

Recently I discovered Bunny Butt Apothecary at Etsy.com. I saw great reviews on natural products and decided it was time to give them a try. I wanted to try more items than I ordered but sadly saw soy as an ingredient and since I am allergic, I am really trying to avoid it. I was still able to get some great stuff.

I got a TINTED LOVE Mineral Lip Tint (Beeswax - 0.15 oz)
This is a really pretty light wash of color, creamy and moisturizing, nice scent.

Then I got 2 of the Aromatastic Perfume Oil - CHOOSE YOUR SCENT (Vegan - 0.25 oz)
in ATOMIC CHERRY AMARETTO: an explosion of wicked cherry with a base of deep almond - this baby will make your nose hairs curl! and ORIENTAL CITRUS: magical blend of mandarin slices & peel, bergamot, spices and exotic fruits.

Love this!!! I wanted something yummy to help me stop using traditional perfumes with chemicals and this was it. So affordable and so yummy! I roll it on my wrists, cleavage and behind my ears. I can't wait to try more scents!

I got a CHOOSE YOUR SMELL The Pits Veggie Protein Deodorant -- LARGE (Vegan - 3 oz) in ATOMIC CHERRY AMARETTO: an explosion of wicked cherry with a base of deep almond - this baby will make your nose hairs curl!

Now this is what I call a nice smelling and feeling natural deodorant. The scent is amazing. It doesn't bother my skin at all like some natural deodorants. It doesn't prevent sweat but then nothing natural will stop that from happening. I just reapply as needed. I look forward to trying more scents in this product too.

Last but not least, I got Complexion Zen Butter (not available on Etsy today but the Bunny Butt website).

Creamy and healing! I think this might be a little too moisturizing for my face skin so I use it as needed instead of daily. I also have to say, this works great for itchy skin patches or dermatitis. I get really itchy scaly spots in the winter and this really helped for that. They have a creme that sounds more suited for my face but it contains soy so I ordered this instead.

All on all some great products and very affordable. I highly recommend Bunny Butt!!!

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Gel Eye Liners

I got the fruit pigmented strawberry box set from 100% Pure around the holidays when they had a great special. One of the items was a fruit pigmented gel eye liner. I was busy trying to wear my other colors so I had not worn this one yet. I finally wore it this week, 2 days in a row. I am impressed! I really like this. I applied it with a liner brush from 100% Pure (if you haven't tried their brushes they are fantastic). It applies creamy but not too creamy and feels good on. It lasted all day long and still looked pretty good at night before bed when I went to wash my face. The color I got was Silver Star. I am hoping to try more of these.

Dr. Oz and Mineral Makeup

Recently on Dr. Oz's show, he said that mineral makeup was not safe because it goes into your lungs. That is a very simplified statement regarding what he said. For more information on this, you can visit his site. I like Dr Oz. Don't get me wrong. I think he brings attention to some important health issues that people are often unaware of. The thing is, you have to take charge of your own health and your own medical treatments. Always ask questions, always research, always get a 2nd opinion. If we all just listen to everything a doctor says just because they are a doctor, then we lose control of the care of our own bodies. Doctors are wonderful and they help us but we cannot depend on them for all of our answers. Just because it was on TV and said by a doctor, does not necessarily mean it is 100% accurate.

As someone who has had many chemical reactions and done a lot of research into chemical contents and dangers in cosmetics, bath products, etc, I am quite bothered by this statement. Dr Oz has his right to say what he wants, this is the USA. Unfortunately, I think some of his suggestions are not realistic and are not the safest choices. I am not going to go into heavy detail about this but as someone who has worn mineral make up for almost 9 years, I am more than happy with how much healthier my skin now is. I had severe reactions to many liquid foundations and sunscreens and found out it is best for my skin to avoid all chemical based sunscreens and cosmetics. For me, this is the best option. The chemicals in liquid foundations are also dangerous and they absorb directly into your skin. This puts chemicals into your body on a daily basis. My body rejected these chemicals with dermatitis, acne, blistering skin, redness and irritation. Mineral makeup has not only done away with these reactions but has improved my skin. I am sure my natural skincare regimen also helps.

I like to use the example of when I was in classes in college as an art major. We used toxic items in almost every class. The best of the worst would be charcoals and pastels. These are not safe items but make beautiful art. We would be in closed spaces using these for hours at a time. When you were done using them, you knew you were very exposed to them because you would blow your nose and see a rainbow, often for quite a while. It was difficult to wash off your skin. If mineral make up did this, I would feel differently about it. Mineral make up rarely shows up on a tissue if I blow my nose and if it does, it is only because I used a lot of concealer around my nose to cover redness. It never shows up in (pardon the grossness) what came out of my nose.

I would like to leave you with a comment from Leslie Blodgett, the CEO of Bare Escentuals (courtesy of the BEA Forum on Delphi):

"The safety and wellbeing of every customer is of paramount concern at Bare Escentuals. We would like to assure our customers that there is absolutely no credible scientific evidence that our mineral cosmetic products can be easily inhaled into the lungs, much less linking our mineral cosmetic products with negative health effects. Unsupported allegations that all mineral cosmetic products are “dangerous,” based on what unidentified “experts” have supposedly said, are unnecessarily alarming and fear-inducing because such allegations are simply not supported by any credible evidence. We stand behind our products and look forward to continuing to provide high quality products to the millions of women whose lives have been touched by bareMinerals. "
