My Top 13 Beauty Au Natural Moments of 2010

I have been compiling a list of the wonderful things that have happened this year and it seems like a large majority of them revolve around my blog and Bare Escentuals so I wanted to post my list here to share with my amazing and loyal friends and readers.

I also wanted to share that Bare Escentuals just posted their Top 10 Facebook Moments on their Facebook page and they also sent out an email of their 10 BARE facts of 2010.  Top 2010 Moments are popping up everywhere.  I just spotted one on True Blood's Facebook page too!

Here are my top Beauty Au Natural moments for 2010!

  1. In April 2010, I finally attended a Bare Escentuals Getaway event.  I had watched friends online attend these since I joined online forums in 2003 and finally this year I could afford to go! This was momentous for me, not just because of Bare Escentuals and meeting all my fabulous friends in person but it really signified how far I had come in my life.  I flew on a plane for the first time as an adult, I went to the west coast for the first time ever, I drank mimosas with Leslie Blodgett and the "Angels" who attended the event on the patio of the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco Presidential Suite!
Not only was this event a completely amazing trip to San Francisco but it fell on my birthday weekend and what a fabulous way to turn 33! I blogged all about this event and posted about it on Twitter.  This is how @Leslie_BE and I started tweeting back and forth and she read my blog!
  2. I was personally invited by Leslie Blodgett to meet her and Alison from BE for lunch in NYC along with a select group of fellow BE customers who won the chance to attend.  We had lunch at Carmines and then visited the Bare Escentuals Time Square boutique which feels like my home away from home in NYC now.  I love you guys! I also made some fantastic friends who I have kept in touch with.
  3. I got a shout out from @BareEscentuals on Twitter with a #FF which is Follow Fridays, a suggestion to follow that person on twitter that is posted on Friday.
  4. My blog gained popularity and now has a facebook fan page because friends wanted me to post updates and reminders and facebook.  I thought it was easier to keep it all in one place and I am not sure my guys friends from high school really want to read about the latest BE kit LOL   Today, I am so proud to say that I have 83 public followers on blogger and 338 fans on facebook.
  5. 100% Pure was so excited that I blogged about their products that they sent me free mascaras to review!
  6. Lather commented on my Top Choice for All Natural Body Scrub where I talked about their awesome Bamboo Lemongrass Foaming Body Scrub. They also added me to their list of Beauty Bloggers on their Twitter page.
  7. LUSH thanked me for doing a great review of some of their products and sent me some new product info to share in my blog.
  8. Badger thanked me for reviewing their products and posted the link to my review on their facebook page.
  9. Attending multiple BE Events and having people come up to me to meet me &/or take a picture with me.  Still feels kind of weird but it is also a lot of fun.  Best reaction to this was when it happened during my makeunder with Bravon and he told me I was a celebrity!
  10. After a little persuasion from various BE friends, I attended the BE Events in NYC and Smith Haven NY in October 2010.  I brought my mom to her first BE events and we had the most fabulous time.  We spent time with my BE friends, we got makeunders, we shopped out hearts out and felt beautiful.
  11. On October 13, 2010, I got a makeunder with Bravon Pascua at the Smith Haven event.  This needed it's own entry here because it was amazing.  I learned so much and just adore Bravon.  I blogged all about it and shared his BE wisdom with all my readers. (OMG I just googled Bravon's name and my blog entry is one of the top search results!)
  12. I planned 2 of my own mini-BE events in NYC and Albany NY which were a lot of fun and well attended.   The NYC event was in August and the Albany event was in November.  Nothing will ever beat spending time with and meeting the wonderful friends I have made through Bare Escentuals and my blog!

  13. On November 9, 2010, Leslie Blodgett called me personally to tell me that she was going to use my High Shine tube technique, "Shake Tap & Swirl" on the air on QVC the following weekend.  She also asked me to send her other tips for the Perfect Gift Collection which was going to be the TSV when she was on the air so I emailed her my ideas. She not only used my High Shine tube technique on the air on QVC during 4 presentations but she gave me a personal shout out 3 times! "Heather from NY"  All 3 recordings are still on my DVR at home in high def.  My BF is transferring them onto our computers for me so we can finally clear the DVR LOL

Brush Series: Magnetic Brushes

I am continuing my brush series by talking about the Bare Escentuals magnetic brushes.  The brushes that I am talking about are the Brush with Genius and the magnetic multi-liner brush from the Tutorials: Eye Lining kit.

For starters, the types of brushes that came in these collections are shown below.  In the Brush with Genius, you get a multi-tasking face brush, a contour blush brush, a long tapered shadow brush, a slanted liner brush and the tapered blending shadow brush.  In the Eye Lining kit, you get a full-edge liner, pointed liner and soft edge liner.

With the Brush with Genius, the 2 face brushes fit on one end of the magnetic brush handle and the eye brushes fit on the smaller end.  The Eye lining kit brushes all fit on a one ended magnetic handle.  The trick I discovered...the eye brushes are interchangeable between the 2 kits and brush handles!!!!!  You can use the eye brushes from Brush with Genius with the smaller one ended handle from the eye lining kit and you can use the eye liner brushes on the smaller end of the handle from Brush with Genius!  I absolutely love how interchangeable they are.  This is super convenient and amazing for travel.

The face brushes are very soft and supple.  The blush brush is fabulous and gives great color to your cheeks.  The face brush works for everything from foundation to mineral veil.  Then you have multiple eye brushes for various looks.  From now on when I travel, these will likely accompany me.

Brush Series: Concealer Brushes

Next in my series of brushes are the concealer brushes. I am going to discuss the Bare Escentuals Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush and the Bare Escentuals Maximum Coverage Face Brush.

The Max Coverage Concealer Brush:

This brush has multiple uses.  I actually own and use 2 of them constantly.

First, I use this brush for concealing or pre-concealing.  I will swirl the brush into BE Bisque and then pat it onto areas needing more coverage.  Usually, this is around my nose and the corners of my eyes where I get a lot of redness.  It is also good for covering up blemishes or other spots that need more coverage.

Another user for this brush is for Prime Time eye primer.  I use a 2nd brush for this because you don't want the prime time for eyes getting mixed in with your bisque, the brush will get kind of gross.  For prime time use, I squeeze a small amount out onto the brush and then apply it directly to my eyelid with the brush.  You need to make sure you clean this brush more often than others because the prime time builds up on the bristles.  I find that Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo really cleans it well.

Small amount of prime time, this is actually more than I needed for 1 lid
The Max Coverage Face Brush:
I use this brush to apply foundation in areas that my kabuki brush can't really reach.  It is best not to buff your kabuki into the delicate skin around your eyes so this is a great place to use this brush.  I learned this from Bravon: After he applies the bisque, he uses the big daddy concealer brush (max coverage face brush) with foundation to gently press and roll it with your finger pressed into the bristles and onto your cheek.  You do this between the eye and cheek area to blend the concealer under the eyes with the rest of the foundation on the face. Bravon also uses this brush to blend out cheek colors.

Bare Escentuals Leslie & Lisa Couture Buxoms

I had to return an item to QVC because it contained parabens so I decided to order something special to make up for it.  I got the Leslie & Lisa Couture Buxoms. These are limited edition items.  I took some pics because a lot of people wanted to know what they look like.  In the swatches, I swatched Gabby buxom as a comparison.  Then on my lips, I put Leslie on one side and Lisa on the other.  I am posting a couple versions of each pic so you can really get the feel for the colors.

These colors are amazing! They are suited to every skin tone and are soooo sparkly.  Perfect for the holidays and special.  That is why they are couture!

My Bare Escentuals Friends & Family Special Markdowns Haul

I should not have gone to the BE website during Friends & Family but I did and I found some items marked down to amazing special prices.  Not only that but I was able to get an extra 20% off with the friends and family discount. I got a back up of the Rare Minerals Moisture Burst Facial Mist, Meet the Nuts (which I had before and sold), The Bare & The Beautiful kit (2 eye colors I sold and then regretted selling), Big Lips/Big Lashes and the Face Fashion Fab Fresh Collection which I somehow skipped when it first came out.  I got all of this for about $56 and that includes tax!

Bare Escentuals Gold Rush Collection

My order from QVC arrived the other day.  I finally got to play with the colors and they are gorgeous.  You can't go wrong with gold!  This is the Bare Escentuals Gold Rush Collection
The box is adorable and should be useful for storage too.  The mini brush is too cute and the eye colors, fabulous! Just look at the sparkle in the swatches and imagine that they are even prettier in real life.

Bare Escentuals look with Dandelion, Lucky Penny & Legit and a new make up mirror

I finally wore some of the Wish collection colors and I love them!!! Absolutely gorgeous.  I also got a new Ottlite makeup mirror yesterday and I wanted to show you and get your opinion.  Some of the pics below are taken with natural light since the light was actually bright enough by my window.  The other pic is taken with the light of the new Ottlite makeup mirror.  What do you think of the lighting in that pic?  I am wondering if I would be better off with a full size light by Ottlite in contrast to the makeup mirror.

  • BE Brightening Prime Time for face
  • BE foundation in Fairly Light
  • BE Bisque as Concealer
  • BE Faux Tan Matte
  • BE Pink Petal Blush
  • BE Mineral Veil
  • BE Prime Time for eyes
  • BE Dandelion from lash to brow
  • BE Lucky Penny in crease & V
  • BE Legit Wetlined
  • BE Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara in Black

Brush Series: The Kabukis

I am starting my make up brush series with the kabukis.  Majority of my brushes are from Bare Escentuals. I have been pretty happy with the quality of their brushes and many of them come in collections so you can build a decent collection quickly. If the brushes I write about are available from an actual online retailer, not ebay, I will post a link to the brush.

Why am I starting with the kabukis? I am starting with them because I start my make up application with a kabuki.  I use the Bare Escentuals kabuki brush to apply my foundation.

Kabukis are excellent for full coverage.  They really hold a lot of product and are great for buffing mineral make up.  They tend to be soft but full except for the light buki so the light buki is the only one I would use for lighter application.

I present to you, the bukis:

First, the original buki, the full coverage kabuki, for applying foundation. I like to apply first with circular motion, then I sweep over my face a second time.  Lastly I will buff more in places that need more coverage. This is my fave foundation brush.

Next we have the other bukis:

The Body Buki is a softer buki and it is ginormous! The main use for this is body glimmers and it is perfect for them.  I would never use it for make up application because of the size.
The Light buki is much softer. It came in the BE Sea Yourself Collection which was a TSV on QVC a couple years ago. Since this one is the same size as a regular buki but thinner, you won't get the same kind of coverage.  I think the Light Buki is better suited to mineral veil but it also would work great for blush and radiance application.
The Baby Buki is smaller but still very full and firm.  This would give very good coverage but it is smaller so it would take more work in my opinion.  You could use this for foundation or for an all over face color if you use a light hand. This is not the itty bitty sample buki that comes with foundation samples.

Last but not least, the handy buki.  This is just like the baby buki but with a longer handle.  It is easier to use and maneuver because of the handle.  Same use as the baby buki but easier to use.

BE Buxom Big & Healthy Lipsticks

I went to Sephora today and picked up some of the Buxom Big & Healthy Lipsticks to try.  I had avoided the Buxom line for a long time because some people had reactions to them and I was scared.  I was also trying to avoid them because they didn't seem as natural as the other Bare Escentuals products.  I finally tried a Buxom gloss and liked it so I decided to give he lipsticks a try too.  They may not be 100% natural but they are missing a lot of the bad chemicals that I try to avoid so that is pretty good in my opinion.  Here are some pics!
