Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Northern Lights, Clifton Park NY

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a rare small venue show on Sat Aug 1, 2009 at Northern Lights in Clifton Park NY. I have to say that the show was excellent. Karen O knows how to entertain and her voice sounds just as good in person as it does recorded. No disappointments there. I don't know where she finds all of her energy. She really is non-stop, even in the sweltering heat that we experienced in Norther Lights that night. She declared mid-show just how hot it was in there.

The opening act was okay, Amanda Blank. The younger members of the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. The older members, at least the ones around me, seemed to be hoping for more rock and less hip-hoppy rap 'n' rave music.

There was a long wait but it was worth it. Due to crowd circumstances, I opted to move back and try to watch from farther away from the stage. I was also soaked with sweat (not just my own) and had been hit, elbowed, stepped on and budged in front of too many times. When a huge muscle-head stereotypical drunken frat boy had a fit and almost got in a brawl with a girl who was my size or smaller because she tried to get by, his beer hit my BF and me and I could see the fight that would happen sooner or later. Taller people kept shoving me out of the way and there was no way I was going to see anything or enjoy myself let alone feel safe in that part of the crowd. We moved back and instantly felt better, could breathe, felt less threatened and could see more of the stage. Of course, more tall people ended up in front of me but nothing near as bad as it was in the crowd where I feared I would suffocate while surrounded by enormous sweaty frat boys who shocked me with their boppy dance moves. This crowd was one of the worst I have ever been in. I felt like I was watching a social experiment gone wrong. No code of conduct, no respect for other human beings, no peaceful bonding over the awesome music. What has happened to America I ask? Not helping was the fact that it was boiling hot, felt like 100 degrees and even the ceiling was dripping some some kind of sweat...gross!

Some clips from the show.
