Bad Shopping Urges

I am having really bad shopping urges for the first time in a while. I think it relates to a lot of things. Boredom, seasons changing, the habit of back to school shopping, stress, and of course the new things that are out that I have had my eye on. I am planning to buy some Zoya nailpolish to try out. Maybe that will help calm my urges. I got the email about the 20% off Ulta coupon. Luckily it didn't include the BE kits I wanted to order. I just want to hold out and feel like I managed to go all summer without buying any new BE. We will see how long I can resist.

Ritter-Sport Chocolate

I saw an article somewhere online, who knows where by now, rating what they claimed to be the best tasting chocolates. One of the top rated milk chocolates was Ritter Sport. I realized I have never even tried any of their chocolates and decided it was time. I bought their Dark Chocolate 50% cocoa and their Alpine Milk Chocolate 30% cocoa. I have to say that both were extremely delicious. Not only that but their Dark Chocolate did not contain milk and was still decadent and creamy. I may have found my new favorite dark chocolate. All the Hershey's dark chocolates have milk in them. Other dark chocolates are ok but sometimes a little too bitter. This one is "just right."

One of the funniest things I have seen on twitter

I just started following shitmydadsays after seeing a friend suggest it and I have to say it is some of the funniest stuff I have read in a while. As I've been quite stressed lately, I could really use the laughs I got from this one. I highly recommend it but warn that his dad has a bit of a mouth on him LOL Pin It StumbleUpon

Oops, 1st repeat BE eye color

I had my 1st accidental repeat eye color today. It was playful. I didn't realize I had worn it already as it was in the stash at home and I grabbed it in the latest color batch to bring to Matthew's and keep in my train case until I wear them. I went to check it off my list and it was already checked off. I had figured that sooner or later, I would repeat some colors, especially highlight colors as I don't have as many of them as I do other shades. I will have to double check on what I have worn now that I have worn so many. I am getting pretty close to finally wearing my whole Bare Escentuals eye color collection at least once each.

(I am borrowing this pic from and Doxiegirl, giving them full credit, hope you guys don't mind)

BE Nirvana Update - 207 colors to date!

Here is my latest BE Nirvana Update. So far I have worn 207 eye colors without any repeats!!! I have not bought anything new. I am feeling very reformed though I know I will eventually want to shop again but not like I used to. Once I wear each colors at least once, I will retest the colors I am iffy on or didn't like much when I wore them. Once I do that test, I will decide what to swap, sell or gift. I can't base it on one single wear because a good color can have a bad day or combo. It will be time to part with the colors that I will not wear. Then I need to wear my Pure Luxe, Monave and 100% Pure eye colors. That should not take long since I only have about 1 or 2 small sterlite drawers with those.

I am going to purchase the new Biscotti lip gloss coming in the Black Diamonds AD from a fellow BE wearer. That will be my first purchase in a while but it still is not a new eye color. I tend to wear all my lip glosses so I feel less guilty about this purchase. After seeing the AD kit I almost regret canceling it but figure I can find the colors later on if I must have them.

Here is the list of colors I have worn this time around:
  1. Bronze Leaf
  2. Black Emerald
  3. Grass
  4. Bon Bon
  5. Sure Thing
  6. Gal Pal
  7. GF Michelle
  8. Ginger Peach Smoothie
  9. Banana Smoothie
  10. Mango Smoothie
  11. Spirited
  12. Starlet Catherine
  13. Purrfect
  14. Faith
  15. Kudos
  16. Magnetize
  17. Glamourista
  18. Stunner
  19. Leaf
  20. Surprise
  21. Joeli
  22. Hyacinth
  23. In a Jam
  24. Hope
  25. Grace
  26. Hugs
  27. Intuition
  28. Madras
  29. Summer
  30. BE Unique
  31. WW Debra

Cinnamon Pinwheel Raisin Bread minus raisins

This is the second bread I tried to bake from the Kneadlessly Simple book. It came out better than expected. The dough had some mild disasters along the way. I realized I was missing an important ingredient that needed to be added before the 2nd rise soooo the 1st rise lasted too long and was in too warm an environment due to the heat wave. The dough was very fluid in consistency which did not provide for ease of rolling out to sprinkle the cinnamon mixture. The dough was leaking off the sides of my pastry board. I somehow managed to smoosh it all together and asked my BF to come over and hold the bread pan so I could plop as much as I could into the pan. Oh, it seemed so doomed. After the 2nd rise things seemed okay but I was still worried. When it baked, it still managed to smell amazing. The dough came out okay. Compared to photos I found online, I may try this again when I have a more controlled environment. My BF loves it and keeps eating it so it must taste ok. I am still liking the chocolate bread from before a bit better. Here are some pics of my baking attempt and a link to see what it is supposed to go like.

The way this recipe should go (looking at this, it appears I may have missed a step LOL): No Knead Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Some More Life Changes

There has been some stress and unexpected changes in our lives. My job is going well in general but my current department lost our "boss" in early July. Since then, things seem to be up in the air. People seem very stressed and there is a lot of anxiety and tension in the air. I am trying to remain positive and calm in the midst of all this.

Then the BF found out that his department was overstaffed and his job was dissolved. He was given 2 options, work the overnight shift or transfer to the distribution center. Of course, the distribution center was the better option. He has friends who work there, the hours are good and they treat their employees better. They also pay better. Of course, he went there the next day with his friend who works there, things seemed good. He went to his manager at the store to be told they had reached their quota for the % of employees that can transfer. Poor BF, he was left stuck with overnights. We had 2 weeks to spend on our normal schedule and try to enjoy as much time together as we could. Finally this past weekend we had some nice summery weather so we went to the beach and the drive-in. Then Saturday we lounged around the apartment in the air-conditioning and did some grocery shopping.

We are adjusting to the schedule a bit better than kitty. He spent a lot of the night pacing the bedroom meowing. He was very worried about his dad. Then when his dad got home, he was in his face and did not want to let him sleep. "Dad, I was so worried!" Hopefully the adjustment for kitty and the rest of us will go smoothly. The change has been hard. Matthew comes home and gets in bed when I wake up. When I get out of work, I head right home ASAP to get him to work by 10pm.

Still no luck in the hunt for an apartment or house for rent in this area. All we ask is a reasonable price, enough room for both of us, a decent neighborhood (not one that the owner or agency declares great, one that ACTUALLY is great), and of course one that allows cats. This has been close to impossible. I am not sure why people have become so anti-pet or why people have decided that this area is worth the new average price of rent. Most places are around 700+ per month and don't include anything. I know people living in higher demand areas paying much less. I am sure things will work out eventually but it has been stressful. Lets hope all this change is for the best and it leading us to something good. Pin It StumbleUpon

Double Chocolate-Honey Bread

I decided to experiment in bread baking this weekend. I had purchases Kneadlessly Simple by Nancy Baggett a couple weeks ago. This was the first recipe I have tried from this book. Though the recipes are very simple, I am not sure I have the patience to wait for the various stages of bread rising. It became a weekend long project. I am guessing that the sudden summer weather we had this weekend also did not help as the recipe called for cool room temperature and it was very warm in our kitchen.

In spite of the waiting and heat, the bread seemed to come out good. I am pleased that this bread is dairy free aside from the chocolate chips. This is much easier on my lactose intolerance and dairy allergy. I was sure to use my high quality cocoa from Lake Champlain Chocolate and used Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips, King Arthur Flour and Domino Sugar. There is an optional glossy chocolate drizzle that I skipped this time.

Some pics of how the bread came out:

Another BE Nirvana Update

Still doing well. No eye color repeats and almost halfway through my collection. I am noticing some big gaps in color groups that I have not worn yet, lots of yellow, orange and pink. This will be their last chance. I have decided that if I don't like them on, then it is time to sell them off. Maybe halves, maybe entire jars. I have not decided yet. So far so good with the cutting back on shopping. I still haven't bought anything new. I even went to the Albany boutique and looked around, left with nothing. It felt good. I am thinking about letting myself do some shopping in the fall when new stuff comes out. It will be like a reward for a job well done in my mission to only buy what I will wear and use.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Northern Lights, Clifton Park NY

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a rare small venue show on Sat Aug 1, 2009 at Northern Lights in Clifton Park NY. I have to say that the show was excellent. Karen O knows how to entertain and her voice sounds just as good in person as it does recorded. No disappointments there. I don't know where she finds all of her energy. She really is non-stop, even in the sweltering heat that we experienced in Norther Lights that night. She declared mid-show just how hot it was in there.

The opening act was okay, Amanda Blank. The younger members of the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. The older members, at least the ones around me, seemed to be hoping for more rock and less hip-hoppy rap 'n' rave music.

There was a long wait but it was worth it. Due to crowd circumstances, I opted to move back and try to watch from farther away from the stage. I was also soaked with sweat (not just my own) and had been hit, elbowed, stepped on and budged in front of too many times. When a huge muscle-head stereotypical drunken frat boy had a fit and almost got in a brawl with a girl who was my size or smaller because she tried to get by, his beer hit my BF and me and I could see the fight that would happen sooner or later. Taller people kept shoving me out of the way and there was no way I was going to see anything or enjoy myself let alone feel safe in that part of the crowd. We moved back and instantly felt better, could breathe, felt less threatened and could see more of the stage. Of course, more tall people ended up in front of me but nothing near as bad as it was in the crowd where I feared I would suffocate while surrounded by enormous sweaty frat boys who shocked me with their boppy dance moves. This crowd was one of the worst I have ever been in. I felt like I was watching a social experiment gone wrong. No code of conduct, no respect for other human beings, no peaceful bonding over the awesome music. What has happened to America I ask? Not helping was the fact that it was boiling hot, felt like 100 degrees and even the ceiling was dripping some some kind of sweat...gross!

Some clips from the show.

Gabriel's Market in Scotia NY

I have been shopping at Gabriel's Market in Scotia for about a year or two now. It is a quaint little market with some high quality foods. I go to the Scotia location but they also have one in Rotterdam NY. It feels good to support local businesses but also to know I am getting higher quality products and service. I especially tend to buy meat & fish as well as baked goods there. I highly recommend this market for excellent prices on quality foods. In this day and age, we need to focus on quality and safety. They tend to have baked goods from local bakeries in NY state. Many other items are made in store. Their meats tends to be excellent. I once wanted stir fry beef and asked an employee who was in the meat section and he volunteered to go cut some for it and packed it right there on the spot. I normally go and stock up on beef, chicken & salmon. Pin It StumbleUpon
